ABSTRACT:

A person’s ability to overcome any obstacles they may face in school or in life in general depends greatly on their tenacity. This research is conducted to find out more about how college students who scored high on tenacity achieved it. The experiences of students with low tenacity scores were also explored. Qualitative data was collected from twenty college students enrolled in the school year 2022-2023 who have high and low tenacity scores. Through in-depth interviews, the study looked into the participants’ experiences that assisted them in acquiring high tenacity. Students with low tenacity scores on the other hand were also interviewed to understand their experiences. The data were analyzed using the thematic analysis approach. Based on the thematic analysis of the study, the themes were categorized according to their experiences and practices. For their experiences, the participants mentioned that the following contributed to their high and low tenacity: significant experiences in the family, the presence of supportive friends, and significant experiences in school. For their practices to enhance their tenacity and coping mechanisms in overcoming challenges in life, the respondents mentioned the following: engage in self-care activities and ask for external support. The study’s findings provided a better understanding of how college students’ tenacity might be strengthened further. The result of this study provided inputs for the development of sustainable programs for the school, particularly for the College Guidance and Counseling Center in enhancing the tenacity of the college students.
