Margie A. Magnaye
ABSTRACT:
Over the past decade, literature education has undergone considerable changes influenced by the emergence of digital technologies and pedagogical trends. The widespread integration of technology in education has transformed the way literature is accessed, taught, and interpreted. Hence. this study investigates and compares the teaching of literature in the present times with the practices employed in the past decade, as perceived by selected literature teachers in a private Higher Education Institution (HEI) in CaLaBaRZon following historical comparative framework (Mahoney (2004). It also delves into the evolving pedagogical methods, instructional tools, and overall approaches utilized by literature educators to identify possible changes and advancements in the teaching of this subject over time. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed and used interviews as the data gathering method with teachers teaching literature for ten years or more as the informants. Results revealed that college literature teachers in a private HEI in CaLaBaRZon exhibit flexibility in their teaching approaches, materials, and assessments to meet the diverse student needs, integrating technology and adapting literary materials while prioritizing fostering appreciation for literature and language alongside critical thinking and communication skills. These insights are of valuable addition to dynamics of literature education in higher education settings and contributed to the improvement of literature teaching, highlighting successful practices, and addressing areas for improvement.
