Intercultural Joint Learning of Startup Concepts in a Blended Formula of an EFL Project
Kamila Szczepanowska
ABSTRACT:
Intercultural Joint Learning of Startup Concepts in a Blended Formula of an EFL Project. Collaborative and blended teaching in an EFL classroom of HEI requires a lot of effort. And yet, despite the abundant issues that may cause implementation of such projects difficult university alliances come in handy. Intercultural and interdisciplinary language courses designed for an international audience in both virtual and physical formats, including learning in formal and non formal environments are an innovative way to teach real life communication skills, also important at the current job market. How to sustainably incorporate projects into the internationalization strategy of a HEI remains an open issue. Blended learning methodology requires the use of e-learning technology to design the programme in a way that virtual part of the course complements the physical one. Platforms such as: ‘Moodle’ or ‘MS Teams’ and e-learning software e.g. Articulate 360 can assist in planning synchronous learning with asynchronous self-study. Focus on learner engagement and interaction as well as direct contact with the teacher in a classroom or via a discussion forum as a facilitator of collaborative learning is crucial. The use of multiple forms of assessment to monitor student progress is another characteristic feature of this approach. As a quite new format to teach languages at HEIs, blended learning needs proper evaluation that can further spur its development. The talk will give insights into: – Implementation stages of an international intensive blended language project – Digital competencies learnt by teachers and students – Forms of assessment and evaluation – Methodology used in blended learning – Outcomes of “English for Entrepreneurship” blended intensive project implemented by partner universities of the YUFE Alliance within the Erasmus + BIP programme KA 131
