ABSTRACT:

The COVID-19 pandemic, which occurred in 2020–2022, presented many challenges in the education sector worldwide. In South Africa, educational institutions embraced different approaches to ensure the completion of the academic calendar during the period of the pandemic. Online teaching became the common strategy that was utilized. Currently, and post-COVID-19, many educational institutions still use a hybrid method of teaching. As students enrol in educational sectors, their main intent is to experience a face-to-face form of teaching and learning. The purpose of this study was to explore students’ perceptions of hybrid learning in South Africa in the post-COVID-19 pandemic. Using the interpretivist paradigm, a focus group interview involving thirty students was used to achieve the objective of the study. The findings of the study revealed that students have embraced the online teaching and learning approach. Students prefer that teaching and learning should be done in a hybrid manner using different pedagogies. Students indicated that they would accept the proctoring method to monitor exams or assessment processes online. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the department of education formulate policies that will incorporate the use of hybrid learning in all educational institutions in South Africa. Such policies should advance the use of proctoring to monitor assessments that are conducted online.
