Exploring The Relationship Between Working Conditions and Suicide Among School Teachers: A Case Study Analysis of Ofsted
Patricia Lagos
ABSTRACT:
This study delves into the relatively unexplored phenomenon of suicide among schoolteachers, with a specific focus on the association between working conditions and suicide. Despite numerous reported cases of teacher suicide in the UK, there is a scarcity of research investigating this issue within the field of education. Employing a case study approach and drawing on critical theory perspectives, this research examines eight instances of teacher suicides that have occurred in the UK over the past decade. By closely analysing these cases, the study aims to shed light on how work-related pressures, including Ofsted inspections, have directly contributed to the untimely deaths of these professionals. The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the complex interplay between working conditions and the well-being of schoolteachers, potentially leading to more informed policies and practices aimed at mitigating these adverse effects.
