Employer Expectations for Language Skills in Estonian and Finnish Internal Security Organizations
Kerli Linnat, Aida Hatšaturjan
ABSTRACT:
As Estonia’s and Finland’s role as the external border of the EU continues to grow, also language skills have become increasingly critical for professionals working in the internal security organizations. Agencies such as the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board and the Finnish Border Guard face a growing need for employees with language proficiency to effectively address the complex challenges of modern security. This presentation investigates the specific language skill requirements of these organizations, with a focus on the evolving expectations of employers in the field. By identifying the gaps between current language training programs and the needs of the contemporary workplace, the study aims to provide valuable insights for developing more tailored curricula that provide students with the language skills necessary to excel in their future careers within internal security agencies.
