ABSTRACT:

In the fast-changing world of education, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought about big changes, especially in online assessments. Universities have expressed concerns regarding the use of AI tools, notably in compromising academic integrity. As technology continues to shape the educational landscape, it is crucial to have assessments that maintain academic honesty in our student population.  This study details how the online assessments in our Mathematics for Social Sciences module were created to make them resilient to ChatGPT. Despite the disconcerting ability of large language models to perform mathematical computations to a high standard, our innovative strategies and methodologies ensured the continued reliability and fairness of learning outcomes. This study also outlines a summary of existing literature on ways to secure online assessments and analyses student performance across different assessment phases during and post COVID-19 pandemic. There is also an attempt to explore student perspectives on AI tools in testing processes. The findings aim to provide valuable insights to educators, researchers, and policymakers navigating the dynamic interplay between technology and education in quantitative subjects such as mathematics for economists and the broader field of social sciences.
