ABSTRACT:

This study aimed to analyse the influence of demographic, socio-economic, family, and community factors on childhood trauma experiences among senior high school students in Bantul Regency. A cross-sectional observational design was used with 500 students selected through proportional stratified random sampling from public and private high schools. The study employed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire–Short Form (CTQ-SF), Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), along with a structured questionnaire on demographic characteristics, family structure, and history of domestic violence. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to identify significant predictors while controlling for potential confounding variables. The analysis revealed that a history of domestic violence (β = 0.304; p < 0.001), low parental bonding quality (β = –0.255; p < 0.001), limited social support (β = –0.178; p = 0.003), and low family economic status (β = –0.223; p = 0.001) were the strongest predictors of higher trauma scores. Female students reported significantly higher trauma than males (β = 0.128; p = 0.021). Parental education (β = –0.198; p = 0.004) and larger family size (β = 0.136; p = 0.011) were also significant. These findings provide novel evidence of the combined effects of risk and protective factors influencing adolescent trauma in a disaster-prone Indonesian context. The study points out the need for multi-level interventions that strengthen parent–child relationships, enhance social support networks, and address socio-economic disparities to mitigate the long-term impact of childhood trauma.
