ABSTRACT:

This study touches upon an important challenge faced by the bio-technology universities in Tunisia. That is the prevailing and ever-increasing unemployment rate of the bio-technology graduates in the country. This is indeed a huge problem that warrants immediate attention. With the help of an Erasmus + CBHE project, this problem has been addressed nationally and internationally. The project is called ‘Modernization of Biotechnology training for better employability of graduates in Tunisia’. There are four national and three European partner universities involved in this project. Together project partners are willingly trying to resolve the problem of the higher education and training of these students in Tunisia. One mean would be to share experiences nationally and internationally and compare learning and teaching methodologies and practices. New forms of coaching and mentoring of students. There seems a need to build bridges among national stakeholders and international partner institutes. These initiatives include trainings for doctoral and post-doctoral researchers. Institutes could learn from each other and compare their own internal operations with those of similar entities. Besides, some entrepreneurship related trainings would also provide avenues of further prospects into business world. Right steps taken now to counter these rapidly changing situation would possibly show some desirable outcomes in near future. Lastly, one additional means to resolve this challenge is joint collaboration in research, development and innovation (RDI) initiatives, where national and international partners work together to develop policies favoring the modernization of education and training of bio-technology in Tunisa.
