ABSTRACT:

The face of traditional learning has received a pedagogical makeover. Prior to the uprising of smart systems, educators were revered as the gatekeepers of knowledge, but today, these systems have carved a presence in education known as AI. Yet, the question educators are left to ponder is, “Will AI diminish innate creativity or empower student ingenuity in learning?” Educators and students alike shouldn’t fear AI, but rather learn how to make it another tool for use in education. Consideration should be taken on the views, thoughts, and impacts of educators using AI in the online learning space. This study extends the conversation on AI and student engagement in online course work using AI Chatbot feedback by looking at the pros, the cons, and sometimes the fears surrounding the integration of generative AI programs. Education researchers explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on post-secondary students’ performance in online courses. The study investigates students’ attitudes towards AI in education and their concerns regarding AI’s potential effects on critical thinking. Data was collected through student responses regarding their experiences with AI feedback in writing assignments. The findings confirm previous studies showing students’ positive attitudes towards AI in education but also highlight concerns about AI providing generic feedback. Implications from the results revealed the importance of pedagogical considerations, professional development, and curriculum design in implementing AI in education. Overall, the study provides insights into the benefits and challenges of integrating AI into online education and offers implications for educators and policymakers.
