ABSTRACT:
This research is motivated by the failure of the United Development Party (PPP) to pass the parliamentary threshold of 4 percent in the 2024 elections. This is based on the election results announced by the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The problem is that this result is the PPP’s first failure in ten attempts at legislative contestation in Indonesia from the New Order era (1977, 1982, 1987, 1992 and 1997) to the Reform era (1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019). Therefore, this research aims to explain how the consolidation of the United Development Party (PPP) institutionalization in facing the 2024 legislative elections. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The data collection technique in this research is a literature study. The findings of this study show that the PPP is unable to strengthen its institutional consolidation which impacts its poor solidity. This can be proven by its negativity in three main indicators: procedural leadership, conflict resolution mechanism, and weak regeneration system, but only positive in the indicator of a strong commitment to shared values and ideology. So the conclusion of this study shows that the lack of institutionalization in political parties has a very significant impact on the decline in votes in elections. Thus, political parties must have the capacity to maintain the solidity of their institutionalization to continue to exist in participating in the contestation.
