ABSTRACT:
Health literacy is as an important aspect influencing health and life quality. The development of health literacy includes the prevention of diseases including infectious diseases. This was strongly highlighted by the global pandemic caused by Covid-19. The aim is evaluate the cognitive dimension in the field of knowledge related to the Covid-19 disease in relation to health literacy in the area of disease prevention among 286 future teachers, the Faculty of Education Palacký University Olomouc in the Czech republic. The research tool was an online questionnaire about knowledge related to the Covid-19 disease designed by the authors and questionnaire of health literacy designed by the World Health Organization. The threshold for successful completion of each Covid-19 test was set at 60% with correct answers. The index of the health literacy in the area of disease prevention have values from 0 to 50 points divided into four health literacy intervals: Inadequate; Problematic; Sufficient and Excellent. Only about 72.7% of future teachers met the criteria for inclusion in the overall excellent or very good level of knowledge category in the field of Covid-19. 42.2% of future teachers with excellent (14.3%) or sufficient (27.9%) level of health literacy in the area of disease prevention were answered over the success threshold (p = 0.61). This implies that the knowledge dimension of future teachers associated with Covid-19 is inadequate and may become a limiting factor in the educational reality. It is therefore desirable to strengthen education in the field of prevention of infectious diseases.
