Jordan Did Smart Phones Support Jordanian Senior Citizens to Achieve Digital Empowerment: Evidence from Reality

ABSTRACT:

Current study hypothesized that ‘Smartphones features (Internet Connectivity, Mobile Applications, Touchscreen Interface, Voice Assistants, Biometric Security and Mobile Payments) have the ability to increase digital empowerment among Jordanian senior citizens’. Quantitative methodology was adopted through using a questionnaire. (467) senior individuals responded to an online questionnaire and SPSS was used to screen and analyze collected primary data. Results of analysis indicated the acceptance of the hypothesis arguing that smartphones increased seniors’ digital empowerment. Smartphones allow senior citizens to retrieve unlimited information while accessing services and entertainment so they can learn throughout life and improve their personal growth. Study recommended developing user interface and mobile app features for smartphones which address the particular requirements of senior citizens throughout Jordan. Further recommendations appeared in the study.
