The Teaching and Learning of Engineering Also Requires the Emotional Factor
Consuelo Orozco Giraldo, Prof. Dr. Andrés Eduardo Muñoz Moreno
ABSTRACT:
The multiple difficulties that teachers of hard or exact science programs have are historical, content-focused classes ignoring or repressing the emotional issue in the greatest mistake that is committed. In this sense, at the Technological University of Pereira, specifically at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, a research process has been developing since 2020 in which emotional intelligence has been included, albeit with some resistance, in the educational process. The results are promising and conclusive, to the extent that emotional intelligence is taken into account by the teacher and included in the activities they develop in class, students not only memorize more, better and in the long term, but they are also happier, better human beings, more aware of their own emotions and more sensitive to those of others. This process has meant that the university is contributing in a transcendental way to the peace process that is being developed in the country.
