Genny Dimitrakopoulou
ABSTRACT:
The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the realm of policing is revolutionising law enforcement practices, offering novel ways to enhance capabilities and outcomes. This paper delves into the myriad applications of AI technologies in policing, such as predictive analytics, natural language processing, facial recognition, and automated data analysis. These innovations hold the promise to significantly improve crime prevention, investigative processes, and the allocation of resources. It, furthermore, addresses the pressing ethical and legal dilemmas posed by AI integration in policing, including concerns about privacy, biases inherent in AI algorithms, and the crucial need for transparent and accountable AI systems. By examining contemporary case studies and best practices, this study illuminates the future trajectory of AI in law enforcement.
The findings underscore the importance of responsible AI usage and propose actionable recommendations for policymakers and law enforcement agencies. Emphasising the necessity of continuous monitoring and evaluation, this paper advocates for AI applications in policing that are ethical, unbiased, and reflective of societal values.
