ABSTRACT:
Project management has been increasingly carried out by companies to organise their activity and achieve their objectives. The role of project managers is becoming more and more challenging and the management of project teams’ knowledge is a major factor considered for the success of projects. In this field, given the growing complexity of project work, there is a greater interest in studying the dimensions of empowerment in project teams and its effects. Empowerment emerges as a set of practices that involve the delegation of responsibility to employees in order to give them greater autonomy and decision-making authority in relation to their main work tasks. Moreover, in project teams, when team members have a good interaction relationship, they express ideas freely to all team members, and team member exchange (TMX) is identified as an antecedent of knowledge sharing.
In this context, this research paper focuses on the analysis of the effects of empowerment and team member exchange (TMX) on knowledge sharing in project teams. Thus, through an analysis of the project team, we obtained data which allowed us to estimate a model through Partial Least Squares – Structural Equations Modelling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that empowerment, through its autonomy and team accountability dimensions, influences knowledge sharing. We also concluded that TMX is an antecedent of knowledge sharing in project teams. Thus, we present useful contributions to academic and business contexts.
