ABSTRACT:

Empowering Girls through Education (EGE) project is an innovative project designed by Save the Children and funded by Hempel Foundation that is being implemented to improve access and quality of education for girls from the most marginalized communities in Bangladesh. This project addresses the challenges for transition of girl students from primary to secondary school and high level of dropouts while also addressing some of the learning gaps that were a result of COVID. The EGE Learning Management System (LMS) system is a customized platform for its learners and users that contains e-contents based books, learning videos, 21st century skills videos, fun and interactive quizzes, and assessment options for both teachers and learners. The videos are attractive to children and the LMS has become a highly acceptable and enjoyable platform for both teachers and students. A study was conducted last year to assess the effectiveness of the EGE model in improving learning competencies for grade IV and V girls. Study findings showed that Grade IV and V girls performed significantly higher during the effectiveness study compared to their performance during baseline in Bangla, English and Mathematics at 95% confidence level (p<0.05). Our evidence and findings show that ICT based education support through LMS, tablets and e-contents can work to better enrich the learning experiences of children and improve the learning competency of the children even from most marginalized and vulnerable areas thus giving them equal and better access to learning opportunities for their overall holistic development.
