ABSTRACT:

Social media has become an integral part of life. Especially for young people, because Generation Z today is addicted to gadgets. They, as natives, are users of many social networks. The goal of this paper is to show the results of the study, which explored Georgian young people’s attitudes toward social media. How often do they use social media as an information source? What do they prefer to get information from—TV or social media? Which particular platform do they prefer? Do they filter and verify information received from social media platforms? These are the main questions of this study, which was conducted among Georgian young people in the spring of 2023 in the Capital City of Tbilisi. Mixed methods are used for the research purpose: qualitative as well as quantitative approaches, focus groups, and Google Form questionnaires. On the whole, 410 students participated in this electronic survey. According to this study, social media is a main source of information for 97 % of questioned young respondents.
