Egyptian Patriotic Music Between 2013-2014

ABSTRACT:
At the end of June 2013 the history of contemporary Egypt changed. Once again, millions of Egyptians took to the streets demanding a change of power. On 3rd on July 2013, the former head of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Defense Minister, ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī suspended the constitution and removed the former president Muḥammad Mursī from power. All of these events found their voice in the lyrics of Egyptian patriotic music. During her presentation, the author will present the results of her research on the Egyptian patriotic music and will concentrate on the society’s moods after the events of 30th June. She will present direct connections between music, politics and the society’s feelings as the author was in Egypt at this time and she will also present the results of her observation.
