ABSTRACT:

The paper entitled, ‘Consciousness: Scientific Reflections on essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson and S. Radhakrishnan’, is a discovery made by the two writers in their essays on human consciousness. Emerson, the Philosopher poet of America and Radhakrishnan the philosopher statesman of India in their essays have shown that a human being has graduated from animal consciousness to human consciousness. From this level the spirit has to evolve and reach to super consciousness where the soul becomes operative and makes the human being live with inherent divine potential. They do not endorse the theory of human evolution as stated by Charles Darwin. They challenge his theme of the ‘survival of the fittest’, by asserting that biological evolution is only a partial truth. Spiritual fellowship of the human race has been responsible for the creative human existence. 21st century is the golden period of the brain sciences. Consciousness studies are making use of sciences to illustrate the changes appearing in the life of a human being due to heightened spiritual consciousness. The paper achieves synthesis by scientific reflection on the works of two authors to open avenues for sciences enabling researchers to learn about consciousness from literature and philosophy.
