ABSTRACT:

This study has the purpose of developing and validating a scale of intrapreneurship, at the individual-level, with a human resources (HR) focus. A three steps process was followed. First, the domains and items generation; through a systematic literary review the intrapreneurship concept was defined as an individual behavior (bottom-up approach) and six domains emerged: 1) communication and information, 2) innovativeness, 3) networking and influence, 4) new business and opportunities, 5) personal initiative, and 6) risk tolerance. Forty-one original items were generated. Second, the content evaluation of the domains and items’ quality (delphi method, panel of twelve experts), which resulted in a final scale of 39 items. Third, the scale validation; an online survey was applied through Google Forms, on Linkedin, to a sample of 406 professionals – to evaluate the proposed scale’s psychometric properties, including exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis procedures. The reliability and internal consistency of the instrument was tested with values in all dimensions above 0.7. Thus, it is concluded that this instrument holds thirty-four items and six dimensions and possesses validity and reliability to measure the intrapreneurial behavior of employees, in an organizational setting. Our expectation is to contribute to the HR theory and practice by developing a new instrument to measure intrapreneurship, and to be applied in future research (by scholars) or in organizational attraction and retention strategies (by practitioners).
