Ethel Natalia Revello Barovero
In the university context, the main purpose assigned to reading in a foreign language and writing in Spanish is the construction and appropriation of knowledge in the various specific fields of study. This goal of reading and writing is limited to the academic field of the Universidad Nacional de Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands -UNTDF. This university was created on the basis of the social, cultural and economic development needs of the province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands. Reading in foreign languages to acquire the specific knowledge in each subject is an implicit requirement and is visualized through the texts that circulate in the academic environment and that organize in a particular way the scientific and academic information of the members of the same field of study. Joining an academic-scientific community implies appropriating the necessary tools to be able to transmit information through texts that this community legitimizes with their practices.
