A Review of Models for Education and Safety Assurance for Distance Learning

The transition from traditional to distance learning mode in just a few weeks in most high education institutions not only in Lithuania, but practically all over the world in the beginning of 2020 was conditioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. And almost immediately few major problems of the process of organization of distance learning were revealed: management of the increased information flows, load on the information and communication systems, cyber security issues as well as issues related to the data security. Moreover, the problem that education provided through distance learning means is not suitable in all situations (for example, educating cadets in military academies) was also recognized.  Therefore, discussions related to the identification of the best educational process, traditional, distance, blended, or hybrid, were ignited to ensure the proper quality of the study process for different types of students. It is not argued that due to the changes in supporting technologies, the process of education is also subject to change. Changes can be seen in principles and theories, teaching methods, communication, and means of information sharing. The literature analysis reveals that different methods of learning require appropriate (different) technological solutions. And these technological solutions have different levels of safety and security. The main aim of this work is to provide the results of a study on possible education models and related safety assurance models that directly affect the quality and security of the education process.
