ABSTRACT:

The conducted study tried to set sight on discovering the impact of learners intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on L2 acquisition and the difference of this impact on studying at a public or a private university, whether being to abroad before or not and different socio-economic groups. Being founded on literature review, the findings shows that there is a balance between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation when foreign language learning motivation is taken into consideration. The sample was around 40 students (23 males and 17 females) from B2 level Ankara University and Ankara Medipol University Preparatory Schools. The Academic Motivation Scale (Vallerand, 1992) was conducted to assess the learners’ motivation type and its impact on language learning. So as to interpret the results Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used and the validity was checked by the Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient (Cronbach, 1951). The results indicated that there is not a significant difference between two groups and from different socio-economic situation and also whether students’ being to abroad before or not in foreign language learning motivation.
