Multidimensional and Unidimensional Gini Indices in Iran During Last Five Decades
Esmaiel Abounoori, Anahita Roozitalab
ABSTRACT:
According to several research done by Abounoori since his PhD Thesis submitted to Kent university at Canterbury, UK, the income(expenditure) inequality in Iran using one-dimensional Gini coefficient has shown levels of inequalities which have not been reflecting the real life in Iran. Recently we have decided to estimate multi-dimensional inequalities using the micro-income(expenditure) data. Comparing the Multidimensional Gini Index with that of Unidimensional Gini Index shows that MGI trends lies always above that of UGI and that MGI reflects increasing trend while the UGI shows decreasing trend. The MGI for Urban, Rural and the Country as whole seems closer to the inequality evidence in real life in Iran.
