ABSTRACT:

A cost-effective, integrated and sustainable healthcare supply chain is vital for any country or city. Nevertheless, the healthcare supply chain in the private healthcare sector in Hong Kong, as recognized by practicing doctors and pharmaceutical companies, is inefficient and lacks of effective integration and cooperation. Over HK$22 million of medicines are wasted every month as a result. It is therefore important to examine the factors determining the cooperation between private clinics and pharmaceutical companies and their willingness to make adaptation. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review is given to determine all important determinants of the cooperation and adaptation of private clinics and pharmaceutical companies in Hong Kong. A conceptual framework is developed to show interrelated variables that should be assessed in examining the collaboration and adaptation in healthcare supply chain. Discussion and direction for further research are also provided.
