Marketing Managers’ Moral Traits Self-Assessment as Drivers of Ethical Leadership

ABSTRACT:
Leadership ethical behavior research has paid little attention to the predictors of ethical behavior at leadership level as well as to the association between leaders’ ethical traits and ethical leadership beyond leader´s personality. Accordingly, the objective of the study was to empirically investigate the relationships between ethical behaviour leadership style proxied by leaders’ moral identity and moral attentiveness at the middle management level. 84 respondents from different middle and small business in Spain, holding marketing management positions, voluntary took part in the study by answering a self-assessment survey. The data was analysed using SPSS software. Positive relationship existed between leader higher self-assessment of moral attentiveness and moral identity with ethical behaviour. The results also revealed that differences on ethical leadership behaviours and moral traits were influenced by gender and managerial positions.
