Opinions of First-Time Mothers about Baby Books

ABSTRACT: 

Baby books are among the main resources that help create a strong bond between parent and baby. These baby books, which form the basis of children’s literature, are materials that meet the play needs of babies, amuse the baby with their visual and linguistic features, and enable the baby to explore in a holistic way with their sensory features. There are studies that examine the effect of introducing babies to books in the early period on developmental areas. Within the scope of the research, it is aimed to clearly reveal whether mothers buy baby books, their view on baby books in general, which books they prefer to use if they buy books, how they use books, how babies react to books, and how book sharing is between mother and baby. In this study, the survey technique was used to reveal the opinions of mothers about baby books. 150 mothers participated in the study. According to the results of the research, mostly mothers did not read books to their babies before 6 months, but bought suitable books; however, it was revealed that they could not find suitable books for their babies after the 6th month. According to the results of the study, it was planned to education mothers with babies older than 6 months about reading appropriate books for their babies and choosing appropriate books. candidates. In parallel with this, pre-service teachers suggested using movies in social justice education.
