Opinions of Pre-Service Social Studies Teachers on Social Justice Education with Movies

Social justice; it is defined as the elimination of prejudice and discriminatory practices in social life. There are many methods and techniques that can be used in social justice education, as well as materials that can be used. Movies are one of the materials that can be used to raise awareness among students about the dimensions of social justice. The aim of this study is to determine the views of social studies teacher candidates about social justice education with movies. The participants of this study, which was carried out in the basic qualitative research design, are five pre-service social studies teachers. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and reflection reports. Data were analyzed inductively. In the study, it was concluded that the use of movies in social justice education is quite beneficial in line with the opinions of all teacher candidates. In parallel with this, pre-service teachers suggested using movies in social justice education.
