Dr. Ijaz Ahmad Tatlah, Ummara Raza
ABSTRACT:
Schools are expected to transmit not only knowledge to younger generations but to improve their other skills like reasoning and application so that we can have Leaders in future. Government of Pakistan has initiated Single National Curriculum (SNC) to fulfill this purpose. Accordingly, this study was designed to explore the effect of TIMSS framework in identification of leadership traits of the students which are directly related to the cognitive domain given in in this assessment framework. Ex-post facto research design used on grade four, 50 students from a school. The researcher conducted test of Mathematics and Science. Each test consisted of 30 items, comprised of 10 items for each domain; knowledge, Reasoning & Application. Test was re conducted with the interval of a week. Afterwards a questionnaire was served related to the leadership traits to the same sample and analyzed its results. The results showed that the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study is helpful in identification of leadership traits of students. Both of the results were compared by applying t-test separately in all the 3 domains scores. After the test a survey on the same sample was conducted to find out the reliability of the results. Results show that the TIMSS assessment framework is contributing in identifying and developing the leadership traits of the students and can be used to bring a positive change in improving the required cognitive domains which can help us to differentiate leadership roles as well in accordance with the SNC.
