ABSTRACT:

This study emphasizes the significance of a comprehensive understanding of the concept of diplomatic language among Master’s students in International Relations, positioning it within a theoretical systemic framework as a core component of their professional toolkit. Through an extensive review and synthesis of the existing literature, the paper aims to provide a holistic perspective of the concept of diplomatic language by exploring its various cognitive aspects and practical applications. It delves into its key features such as politeness and tact, as well as the cultural nuances as integral components of diplomatic discourse. The paper examines diplomatic language within a historical context tracing its evolution, and underscores the diplomat’s strategic choice of the language as a defining feature. The study also highlights the importance of the continuous creation and generation of new diplomatic terms and notions, reflecting the evolving nature of the field. The study suggests that a deeper grasp of the concept of the diplomatic language will enhance students’ linguistic competence, empowering them to employ diplomatic language effectively and successfully in their future professional endeavors.
