Revising the Affirmative Action Programs in Education in Korea: Current System and Its Future Directions
This paper reviews critically the affirmative action programs being applied in Education in Korea and makes attempts to suggest some alternatives to the current system, especially with regard to the support system for the socially vulnerable students. Despite that there have been many different kinds of policy measures to support the socially vulnerable students in Korea, primarily focusing on the use of ‘Affirmative Action Programs’, it is still problematic as to whether we should continue to implement the system or not, because we have encountered a number of unexpected issues. In this background, this paper attempts to analyze the current system regarding the affirmative action programs in the field of education in Korea, to compare it with that of other advanced countries in the world, and to suggest some policy ideas to ameliorate it.
