ABSTRACT:

The paper presents the process of optimization of the weight of elements printed in Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) technology, so-called 3D-printing. For this purpose, the static bending test was carried out. The test was carried out in compliance with PN-EN ISO 178:2011 International Standard. Samples were made of polylactide (PLA) polymer – thermoplastic, further classified as a polyester plastic. The influence of such parameters as infill density and type of filling or its orientation was examined. Inspected shapes were grid and honeycomb with 10, 25 and 50% infill and full infill (100%) with layer orientation 45 and 90 degrees. Printing parameters such as printing temperature, layer height and cooling rate of PLA have been set to obtain the highest possible tensile strength. The collected data allowed to ascertain which infill type is most durable with possibly low density, which contributes to weight reduction of parts used to improve the Silesian Greenpower electric vehicle, where weight reduction and shape optimization are crucial for car’s performance.
