Interactive Effect of Negative Workplace Gossip and Self-Efficacy On Knowledge Hiding Behaviors
Sumit Ghosh
ABSTRACT:
In a recent study (Zhao, Ma & Chen,2024) it was claimed that employees who are subjected to negative gossip tend to indulge in knowledge hiding and this relationship is moderated by locus of control. While researchers have studied this relationship (Zhao et al., 2024), there is a requirement (Zhao, Ma & Chen 2024) for exploring this relationship further empirically. The present study is an attempt to understand this relationship using a more elaborate scale for measuring knowledge hiding (Connelly 2012) and is an attempt to find the effect of self-efficacy in this context as suggested by Zhao, Ma & Chen (2024). It is proposed that negative workplace gossip will vary in its impact on different types of knowledge hiding behavior viz. Dumb, evasive, rationalizing (Connelly 2012), and the relationships will be moderated by self-efficacy.
Data will be collected through standard scales from Indian executives.
