Cherry De Leon- Generoso, J.D., MMNSA
ABSTRACT:
The study explores the significant relationship between social movements and women’s political participation, focusing on the transformative impact of collective actions on enhancing women’s roles in political spheres. Through a multi-dimensional analysis, the study investigates historical and contemporary social movements, examining how they shape and redefine women’s political engagement and leadership. By employing a mixed-method approach, including case studies of prominent social movements such as the Women’s Suffrage Movement, Civil Rights Movement, and modern feminist movements, the research highlights the strategies and outcomes that have significantly contributed to increased political awareness and participation among women. The findings reveal that social movements serve as critical platforms for advocating gender equality, influencing policy changes, and empowering women to assume leadership roles. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of intersectionality in understanding the diverse experiences and challenges faced by women from different backgrounds. The research concludes with recommendations for policymakers and activists to further support women’s political participation through sustained advocacy and inclusive practices. Ultimately, this study contributes to the broader discourse on gender equality and political representation, emphasizing the pivotal role of social movements in advancing women’s political empowerment.
