ABSTRACT:

Domestic violence (DV), gender-based violence (GBV), or any other forms of abuse nowadays are highly discussed topics. Violence against women and girls is one of the most serious crimes worldwide. According to a study conducted by UNODC and UN Women in 2021, Asia recorded the largest number of gender-related killings in the private sphere in 2021. Therefore, the primary goal of this study was to examine abuse and DV within the context of relationships between Japanese citizens and foreign expatriates. Applying a combination of in-depth interviews, surveys, coding analysis, case study analysis, and both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the research endeavors to illuminate significant challenges experienced by these households. This time, among various types of abuse, the author tried to shed light on the extent of control in these households, highlighting emotional abuse and sexual abuse. Furthermore, comparing international households with Japanese, this research has illuminated significant challenges faced by these families and recommended that further research and collaborative efforts between relevant organizations, governmental bodies, and civil society be encouraged.
