From Duality to Synergy: Using CLIL And Bilingualism to Foster Global Competence in A Rapidly Changing World
Reena Rana
ABSTRACT:
In increasingly multicultural and digitally evolving learning environments, the development of global competence among learners has become an educational imperative. This presentation examines the synergistic potential of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and bilingual education in fostering not only language proficiency and subject mastery but also intercultural awareness, adaptability, and critical thinking. Drawing from classroom practice, educational research, and technological integration, the session explores how CLIL frameworks can be enriched through the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create more inclusive, personalized, and globally responsive learning experiences across K–12 and higher education. The role of AI is analyzed not as a replacement for educators but as a supportive force that can enhance engagement, facilitate differentiation, and expand access—particularly through applications such as adaptive feedback systems, pronunciation trainers, and digital storytelling platforms. Ethical implications, institutional strategies, and teacher preparedness will also be addressed to ensure responsible and equitable implementation. This session ultimately reimagines education as a collaborative ecosystem where human-led pedagogy, bilingual instruction, and intelligent technologies converge to prepare learners for success in a rapidly changing, AI-influenced world.
