Language And Cultural Identity
Prof. Dr. Pakiza Gulmammad Aliyeyeva
ABSTRACT:
Language is a fundamental element of cultural identity, serving as both a medium of communication and a symbol of shared heritage. The relationship between language and cultural identity is complex and multifaceted, as language not only reflects the values and traditions of a community but also shapes the way individuals perceive and interact with the world. This paper explores how language functions as a marker of cultural identity, influencing personal and collective self-perception, social interactions, and cultural continuity. It examines the role of language in the preservation of cultural heritage, the impact of globalization on linguistic diversity, and the challenges faced by multilingual individuals in navigating multiple cultural identities. By analyzing various case studies and theoretical perspectives, the paper highlights the dynamic and evolving nature of language as it relates to cultural identity, emphasizing the importance of language in maintaining cultural diversity and fostering intercultural understanding. Ultimately, the study argues that the preservation and promotion of linguistic diversity is crucial in sustaining cultural identity in an increasingly interconnected world.
