Save A Soul: Harnessing The Healing Power of Theatre and Performing Arts
Khopotso Seopela
ABSTRACT:
Theatre and performing arts have long been recognised for their therapeutic potential in addressing mental health challenges. This presentation explores the transformative impact of creative expression on individuals struggling with anxiety and other mental disorders. Through personal narratives, case studies, and artistic interventions, we will examine how theatre can serve as a catalyst for healing, empowerment, and social change.
By sharing stories, embodying emotions, and fostering empathy, theatre provides a unique platform for individuals to process trauma, build resilience, and reclaim their voices. This session will highlight innovative approaches to using theatre as a tool for mental health support, recovery, and advocacy, inspiring a new wave of creative interventions that prioritise the well-being of individuals and communities. Inclusive of the marginalised communities such as LGBTQI+ and the youth living with disabilities.
