ABSTRACT:

It is a known fact that the retailing industry is shifting more and more towards online shopping due to reduced costs and higher availability for customers. Despite this, there are still retailers who do business only in physical stores, while many customers still prefer the “traditional way” of buying directly from a shop. Because of this situation, there is a real need for an application that merges the best features of these two major shopping methods. The solution presented in this paper is a context-based Android application capable of displaying real-time offers from nearby stores. The app can find these discounts by scanning for certain devices that project a Bluetooth signal called beacons. These devices are placed in stores and contain information about current sales. Users of the app can set certain preferences to tailor the search to their specific needs (e.g., seeking only discounts that exceed a certain threshold). We present the implementation and benefits of this application, demonstrating its usefulness from both consumer and retailer perspectives, as well as its advantages over similar solutions. Furthermore, we analyze the solution’s performance in terms of reliability, range, and detection capabilities, and show that it is suitable for real-life use in commercial centers.
