ABSTRACT:

Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness, usability, subjective engagement and satisfaction of a digital mental health self-care service among members of a public university in Peru to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety and perceived stress. Methods. This is an applied research of sequential design and comprises mixed methods and a randomized, controlled, clinical trial with a control group (CG) of 55 participants and an intervention group (IG) of 30 participants. Six research instruments were used: PHQ-9, GAD-7, PSS-10, CSUQ, TWEETS and CSQ-8. Results. The main results were that the IG participants obtained, on average, lower values of depressive symptoms, anxiety and stress, compared to the CG. In addition, the differences have a significant p-value (p<0.05) and higher effect measures in favor of the intervention. Regarding the perception about the intervention, users of the university community reported a high level of subjective engagement but a low level of satisfaction and usability with the digital mental health self-care service. Conclusion. The digital mental health self-care service delivered through the AMYGA web platform, developed in the context of this research, is effective in reducing mental health problems; furthermore, this study provides a solid basis for considering digital interventions as an effective tool in the prevention of mental health in university contexts, and opens new possibilities for its expansion and improvement, both in education and research.
