ABSTRACT:
The modern era demands greater flexibility from Human Resources. Technology is evolving at a rapid pace, with the result that skills of employees are considered as obsolete. Many of them understand the need to enhance their skills in the digital spectrum. One of their options is to enhance their studies in Vocational Education and Training (VET). This paper approaches this issue through the experience created by the simultaneous participation of 90 students of a Greek Experimental Higher Educational Institute in VET and in Erasmus+ projects. The importance lies in the fact that there is a combination of acquiring digital skills on a theoretical level through the educational programmes of an Experimental Higher Institute of VET and their application in enterprises from different EU countries through the participation of students in Key Action 1&2 of Erasmus+ programmes. The research involved two groups of adult students who are already employed and aim to enhance and upgrade their Digital Skills. The first group includes 122 people from the general population who, through the theoretical training of VET, are trying to enhance their Digital Skills. The second group includes 90 students who combine theoretical training and practical training through Erasmus plus actions to upgrade their Digital Skills. The results of the survey focus on a substantial development of Digital Skills to a much greater extent of students participating in European Actions than those who limit their knowledge from theoretical training only. The improvement concerns mainly the categories of Digital Communication and Collaboration and Information Management in innovative technological systems.
