ABSTRACT:

A museum is a cultural symbol showcasing a nation’s developmental trajectory or a specific region. It preserves and displays the cultural memory of a region within a fixed, limited space. As society develops, international exchanges increase, and the public’s demand for cultural life continues to rise; the tourism market is gradually shifting from pure economic consumption to more in-depth needs. Museums have become excellent channels for cultural heritage and exchange, serving as crucial cultural tourism resources for the sustainable development of cities. Additionally, non-state-owned museums have also developed, becoming more standardized and robust. This study analyses the subject through literature research and case studies, using the non-state-owned Hebei Hengzhen Museum as a case study. Through semi-structured interviews, the research explores the reasons behind the creation of museums and the social and educational responsibilities they reflect. It also examines how museum education practices can realize the cultural transmission function of “museums,” transforming from a collection hobby to cultural guardianship and further to cultural transmission—a process of social education. Additionally, the study dissects the cultural characteristics and cultural exchanges facilitated by museums, seeking better ways to use museums for cultural heritage and exchange. The study also presents considerations for constructing a system for international cultural exchange in museums.
