How Can Technological Changes Influence the Shaping and Implementation of Public Policies?

ABSTRACT:
Technological development is the most critical factor in the contemporary world, and its application is evident in the formulation of policies in different fields. A range of new tools, such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics or blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT), are not just the means of government action, but dramatic shifts like government and its interaction with the public. This paper aims to discuss the impact of technological advancements on public policy concerning the most important spheres, including governance, public service delivery, and citizens’ engagement. Technological innovations have become a tool of choice in the formulation and execution of policies in different sectors in societies today given the rising digital age. Technological shift forces policymakers to reconsider the current paradigms and design responses to new and complex societal issues such as climate change, healthcare, and opportunities inequities that integrate and exploit technology. Through the use of analytics, governments are in a position to develop policies that are well-suited to the needs of their people, and which can be changed to meet new circumstances. This is because digital platforms come with feedback loops that show stakeholders participating in policy debates and tracking progress. This approach is not only the inclusive policy-making process but also the policy-making process that ensures accountability between government institutions and citizens. Finally, the complex relationship between technology and public policy has been presented as key to the creation of effective and environmentally sustainable systems in which the public good is not threatened by technological advances. However, the fast advancement of technology comes with some challenges like data privacy issues and the tech gap which policymakers need to address to adequate the advantages of technology. In conclusion, this paper has sought to explain the relationship between technology and public policy therefore having a proper mix to suit the needs of the society.
