The Feminisation of The French Songs Between 1970s and 2000s In Vietnam

ABSTRACT:
Arriving in Vietnam, the French brought with them their romantic melodies, which conquered the heart of the Vietnamese and inspired the birth of the local modern music in the 1930s. The passion for French music reached its climax in the 1960s and 1970s. The mid-1960s saw the apogee of French music in Saigon. The capital of Southern Vietnam became the hub of Salut les Copains wave in Asia. Trendy French songs were sung by the leading Vietnamese pop singers in the 1970s. It continued to developped in Vietnam after the withdrawal of the American army and their allied. Vietnamese -French music also migrated to Paris and Californie with the overseas Vietnamese, those who left the country for a new life after 1975. These singers sang again the French songs whereever they go. French love songs stayed strong in the heart of the Vietnamese community around the world. These French melodies become more beautiful, romantic and feminine through the sweet and tender performance of famous Vietnamese female singers. This article presents the feminisation of French popular music in Vietnam in the last three decades of the 20th century. It will reference its background and identity, its femine features and diversity, its distinguished French songs, and its famous female performers that have stayed in the heart of generations of Vietnamese and had an impressive impact on the music life inside and outside Vietnam over years.
