ABSTRACT:
The present research uses Confirmatory Factor Analysis as an appropriate methodological alternative for studying the psychometric properties of an instrument, specifically, a questionnaire that is focused on teacher professional ethics. Experts in the field recommend Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), more concretely, the adjustment of a confirmatory factor analysis model, for the validation of questionnaires to overcome certain limitations presented by traditional statistical methodology in its use. In this study, which is part of a larger research project1, the factor structure of a questionnaire was examined using Confirmatory Factor Analysis. This type of multivariate analysis provided the appropriate statistical framework for calculating the validity and reliability of each item, beyond conducting global assessments. The confirmatory perspective guided and optimized the entire process of adapting a questionnaire on teacher professional ethics to the Spanish academic context. The results obtained allow us to transfer and make available to the scientific community a questionnaire that can be applied for research purposes, since it is valid and effective in assessing the ethics of the teaching profession.
