ABSTRACT:
As traditional culture education and aesthetic education continue to gain increasing attention, local musical heritage has become an important resource for enriching primary school music curricula. Lingnan musical heritage, which originated in the Lingnan region of southern China—including Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, Macao, and southern Guangxi—is characterized by distinctive regional traditions, cultural diversity, and significant educational value. However, the integration of Lingnan music into primary school classrooms remains constrained by fragmented teaching content, limited cultural engagement, scattered instructional resources, and the lack of a systematic instructional framework.
This research aims to develop an innovative teaching model for integrating Lingnan musical heritage into primary school music education while exploring effective approaches for transforming local musical culture into school curricula and developing age-appropriate instructional resources. Adopting a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach, the research integrates literature review, curriculum content analysis, and instructional design. Guided by the Arts Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education (2022 Edition), seventeen representative teaching pieces were selected from three categories—Lingnan children’s folk songs, traditional Guangdong instrumental music, and regionally distinctive ethnic music—based on their cultural representativeness, educational value, and suitability for primary school students. A four-stage instructional model consisting of Appreciation, Experience, Creation, and Reflection was developed together with a comprehensive resource package including standardized lesson plans, multimedia teaching materials, and formative assessment tools. The research further establishes a curriculum transformation framework linking cultural characteristics, aesthetic values, and educational objectives, providing systematic support for classroom implementation. The proposed model offers a practical and transferable approach for integrating local musical heritage into primary school music education, contributes to culturally responsive music education, and provides valuable insights into curriculum innovation and the sustainable transmission of local musical heritage in basic education.
