Critical Literacy, Reading, and True Crime: Popular Culture in the Classroom
Dr. Janeen Pizzo
ABSTRACT:
AI continues to make headlines for its powerful role in education and its potential to support innovative, sustainable teaching practices. As educators, we have an exciting opportunity to move beyond traditional tools like worksheets and instead design learning experiences that spark creativity, collaboration, and deeper engagement among students. This session highlights how AI can be a partner in this process, helping educators work smarter and design richer, more authentic learning experiences. Using the PICRAT Framework, participants will explore how to maximize the potential of a planning period by reflecting on both teacher and student uses of technology. The PICRAT matrix empowers educators to build on their existing strengths with technology, moving from foundational uses toward more dynamic, creative, and transformative applications. By integrating AI with the PICRAT Framework, educators can enhance their practice as innovative designers who inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and connection in every classroom experience.
