The Role of Mobile Technologies in Enhancing the Performance of Mobile Food Truck Businesses
Dalisu Mkhize
ABSTRACT:
Mobile businesses are gaining popularity in South African urban areas, yet there is limited empirical evidence assessing how mobile truck businesses in KwaZulu-Natal are adopting and integrating mobile technologies. This study examines the role played by mobile technologies in shaping the performance of mobile food truck businesses in KwaZulu-Natal. It seeks to evaluate the extent to which the adoption of mobile technologies, access to new digital tools contribute to business growth, competitiveness, and the capacity to meet market demands. The study has employed a quantitative research approach, surveyed 384 mobile food truck entrepreneurs registered with SEDA under the SMME category in KwaZulu-Natal. A structured, closed-ended, Likert scale questionnaire was selected as the primary data collection instrument. Data was analysed using SPSS version 30.0. The findings from this study suggest that mobile technologies are regarded as highly influential in driving business growth, efficiency, and responsiveness among mobile food truck businesses in KwaZulu-Natal. The study will contribute to the body of knowledge of mobile food truck businesses. Both policymakers and entrepreneurs can benefit by better understanding the role played by mobile technologies in shaping the performance of mobile food truck businesses.
