Remittance Behaviour and Transfer Channels: Evidence from the Afghan Diaspora

ABSTRACT:
Remittances are an important component of financial flows associated with migration. The study delves into the dynamics of remittances among the Afghan diaspora. Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey design across different countries. We employed logistic regression models to understand the determinants of transfer behaviours and channel choice. The results show that socio-economic and demographic factors significantly influence remittance-sending behaviour. Regarding channel choice, external and contextual factors are important, while socio-demographic and economic variables show limited influence. The study provides a comprehensive understanding of remittance dynamics and contributes to the existing literature on migration and remittances. It also offers important policy implications and suggestions for further research.
